On the 11th of March, Hospitality students from Cyril Jackson and other participating schools prepared breakfast for 250 delegates from the WA Association for Mental Health at Kings Park. Some students had to get up as early as 2 am to meet up at the hospitality room of the campus to help prepare food and then leave the campus at around 5:30 am for Kings Park.
The previous days had been spent preparing and cooking the food that would then be taken to the expo; all that was needed on the day was combining the food and reheating.
Students from Northam DHS also prepared their food in our kitchens, putting their part of the breakfast together just as we did to ours.
We all reached Kings Park just as the sun was coming up, a magnificent start to a beautiful day ahead. We parked the bus and begun to set up all of the wonderful food that we had all cooked: Spanish beans; sausages; small breakfast boxes that contained granola, protein bawls, chia pudding and a muffin.
We spent the rest of the time serving the food and conversing with expo goers and organizers, who had graciously allowed us to participate in the expo by listening to some of the speeches.
It was a great day that I would hope to experience again sometime. It was a good feeling catering for such an important event and I hope that we continue to cater for similar events.
