Unit 1 – Prerequisite : Competency with the English language.

HB1The focus for this unit is the healthy body. The unit looks at how our choices such as diet, exercise, alcohol and smoking can affect our health and decisions we can make to keep ourselves healthy. You will be looking at

  • how the body is put together in systems to allow it to function normally
  • how the digestive, excretory, respiratory and circulatory systems work to keep us alive
  • how the body is made of cells and what they do
  • how medical researchers find out about how the body works and how to keep it healthy
  • how advances in medical technology help us in keeping healthy
  • the choices we can make to keep ourselves healthy

This is an ideal unit for those students wishing to go into Training to study health sciences, for example nursing, aged care or dental technician.

Unit Cost: $25.00

Unit 2 – Prerequisite: Successful completion (C grade or better) of Unit 1 or equivalent.

HB5This unit looks at reproduction, pregnancy and birth and how our choices such as diet, exercise, alcohol and smoking can affect our chances of getting pregnant or having a healthy baby. You will be looking at

  • how the reproductive system works
  • what happens during pregnancy and birth
  • choices mothers can make about their activities during pregnancy, the birth process and how they look after their babies 
  • how we can keep mothers and babies healthy before and after they are born
  • how medical science is helping us in understanding how the reproductive system functions normally and ways of treating or preventing problems
  • how medical technology allows us to check the health of babies even before they are born
  • how medical technology allows us to control our fertility by methods that can prevent pregnancy and treatments for people who can’t get pregnant
  • how unprotected sexual activity can increase the risk of sexually transmitted infections and these can be prevented or treated

This is an ideal unit for those students wishing to go into Training to study health sciences, for example nursing, aged care or dental technician.
