Ela joined Cyril Jackson Senior Campus in 2019, filling in as Deputy Principal of the IEC for one year while Belinda Stewart was on leave. This started as a temporary secondment, but Ela felt a strong affinity with the ethos and mission of the Campus and when given the opportunity, chose to remain at CJ. Ela’s current role includes teaching, managing the EAL/D department staff, curriculum and finances, coordinating IEC operations including timetabling and finances, and acting as Deputy Principal on Fridays.

Prior to joining the staff of CJ, Ela worked for 8 years at Greenwood College, where she carried out a range of roles, including Teacher in Charge of EAL/D, Professional Learning Facilitator, OLNA Coordinator, Chair of the Literacy Committee and Debating Coordinator. She possesses a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts from UWA, with a double major in English and TESOL.

Ela is passionate about social justice, holistic and inclusive education, celebrating diversity and teaching. Ela is currently the Secretary of the CJ Finance Committee, SSTUWA Women’s Contact Officer and a member of the High Quality Teaching Committee. Ela’s Senior Teacher role involves upskilling CJ staff in Online Teaching and Learning Technologies. She is also part of a team delivering training in effective Classroom Observation strategies as an initiative to improve teaching quality and student outcomes.

In her spare time, Ela is a committee member of WATESOL and is involved in refugee advocacy programs and animal rescue work on a voluntary basis.
